Talking Entry Halls

Have you ever walked into someone’s home and the entry hall started talking to you?

This is one of those entries. It talks to me.

We’ve all heard that a home’s entrance should tell visitors a bit about who lives there.  It should make a statement about you, your family and who you are.

Well, Jordan’s entry definitely makes a statement and it says a fun-loving, color-loving family lives here!
*Minor departure from the subject of entries...If you’ve read this blog for a while you may have realized I don’t write much about Halloween. I don’t dislike Halloween per se. I’ve just never decorated much for the holiday.  I tend to decorate for Fall in general. But with 4 kids,  I have made my share of costumes!

Anyway, when I saw Jordan’s metal Jack ‘O Lantern bucket I knew I wanted one. If you stretch it a bit you might say I needed one. TJ Maxx? I’m there! Well, actually I sent my daughter but either way I now have my own.

I mean, honestly! If you’re going to decorate for Halloween who can pass up a hammered metal Jack ‘O Lantern?

Back to entries…

This is what Jordan’s talking entry says to me:

  • Welcome.
  • A family lives here.
  • A family loves here.
  • A precious bundle of joy lives here.
  • Someone loves bold color.
  • Someone loves to decorate.
  • Someone loves bold pattern.
  • Someone likes to paint. (Or has a sister that does)
  • Someone likes Mackenzie Childs.
  • Ask her where she found that jack ‘o lantern.
  • You definitely want to see more of this house.

I definitely want my entry to make a statement about me and my family. Above all, I hope it says WELCOME. Right now it says “someone needs to clean off the dining room table.”

What does your entry say about you? What do you want it to say?

Love it! I like her house anyways, looks like she has my kind of whimsical decorating. lOVE TO SEE THE whole house!

  2. Great entry, Sonya! I love the harlequin on the wall. Great cake pedestal. I can tell I’d feel right at home here! What you would call an entry in our condo is a blink of the eye. A short area that I was lucky enough to fit my hall tree in, so at least I have a mirror, hooks on it for hanging things, a small half round table and a bottom shelf. It is actually the perfect piece for a small entry. There isn’t even a light in this area! There are nine light switches though. Go figure.

My entry says come on in…nothing is finished yet. :)

I love the harlequin pattern painted on the wall! I also love her touches of black and white. Very fun! Thanks!

  5. What a delight to step inside! It is such a welcoming entry! Thanks for sharing it with us!

That is great entry. I love when you show her home. Can you get her to show us her kitchen and other rooms. Such fun design!

  8. Stacy says:

My entry is sad. And tiny. Doorway, doorway, closet, stairs. Barely room to stand, much less put anything as adorable as Jordan (or you!)

Oh. And a view to the dining room table covered with Libby and Jared’s school things and anything else that lands there.

But, as a nod to Courtney’s blog, I love where I live! :)

  9. Vanessa says:

Fabulous entry and I have that same metal pumpkin from TJ Maxx! I had to have it too! ;-)

The hammered pumpkin bowl was the first thing I noticed! Love it! I also love the black chest. You know, I love how open the floor plan to my house is, but I do wish I had a wall in my foyer big enough to have an entry table.

Love, love, love this!! Her colors and the bold pattern of red on the wall really speaks to me. Yes, “Welcome” is the first thought, loves color is 2nd and a very talented person lives here would be 3rd.

I have an entry “hall” ~ no room for furniture, just a few pics and a huge “Welcome” on the wall facing the front door.

    Thanks so much for sharing!
