This lovely lady is a favorite of mine.
I’ve had her for a couple of years now but I’m guessing she’s in her early 40′s. She’s a big gal standing 42″ tall with a 19″ shade. When I found her at an estate sale (for a whopping $2) she was a bit on the pale & sickly side but we soon warmed her up with new fabric and a lovely coat of paint.
Of course, her early life was not documented properly so no before pictures remain. But her white shade was in very good shape trimmed with gold braid and her base was ivory painted with gold trim.
After removing the gold braid I gave her shade a new look with a taupe linen.
What she needed next was a touch of the unexpected.
This was accomplished by adding a scattering of layered linen flowers.
Each layered flower was made from three sizes of fabric flowers cut from the same linen as the shade. The flowers are cut in 7″, 6″ and 5″ diameters. I achieved the dimensional appearance by pinching the center of each layer as I hot glued them together. Beware – burned and scorched fingertips are likely with this project.
The flowers were then hot glued in place.
The edges were purposely left raw and even roughed up a bit to fray them more.
The lamp base color is the result of several layers and colors of paint (because I couldn’t make up my mind) including black, metallic silver and metallic titanium.
Even though my sweet little lamp friend has only worn her current style for a couple of years, she’s been hinting that she’s ready for a new look. Not a total makeover, mind you. Maybe just a fresh touch for her shade.
I’m always game for a makeover but looking at my schedule it’s not going to be happening in the near future. Until the time comes, I think she looks lovely just the way she is! And I’m happy to have her as part of my master bedroom!
