New at Beyond the Screen Door

Rhinestone BroochNear the end of each year I begin to look forward to January.

I think of January as a time of fresh starts. Organizing. New projects. The optimistic belief that ALL the items on my to-do list for the new year will be accomplished. My lists, and in this case it’s a mental list, tend to include way more things-to-do than humanly possible. But that doesn’t keep me from being optimistic! I can do it. I like aiming high.

When I think of design projects for the home it’s usually those with the most visual impact. Remodeling, painting – walls or furniture, re-arranging furniture, new window treatments, new pillows, etc…

It’s rare to consider the small, unseen, seemly insignificant things as “goals”.

This past Saturday was, for me, a day full of small, unseen but oh-so-significant projects.

It the midst of an all-out, turning the kitchen completely upside down, top-to-bottom pantry cleaning my husband asked “Was this on your list?”.

Rhinestone Brooch 4“No, but it is now.”

A body can only handle cracker crumbs, stale bags of chips, nearly empty cereal boxes that no one will eat, crunchy marshmallows and maple syrup bottles sticking to the shelf for so long before she goes stark-raving-mad!

So on this unassuming Saturday the pantry was cleaned and re-organized. The dreaded Tupperware/Rubbermaid cabinet was cleaned, organized with mismatched lids thrown away. Kitchen cabinets were organized and the garage sale pile enlarged.  And I finally finished painting the backyard porch posts which we started in November.

I felt like a new woman.

Rhinestone Brooch 3Of course, I had hoped to clean out the fridge, clean the stove and reorganize the paint cans but I ran out of time.

But still. To have such small, unseen and seemly insignificant projects checked off my mental to-so list made me almost giddy. I realize I need days like that. Days to “nest” so to speak.

I’ve also been doing a bit of “nesting” here on the blog as well.

The Shop at Beyond the Screen Door is now open! We’ve been doing a bit of maintenance and adding new items like coffee sack pillows, table runners and fabric remnants with more to come. The rhinestone brooch featured in this post is just one of the new items listed.

Also, new images have been added to The Gallery as well. New photos of window treatments, pillows, and more. Be sure to visit the Gallery for inspiration for your next fabric project!

So here’s to getting those projects and goals accomplished! And to feeling giddy!

  1. Oh, I totally relate to your pantry! That’s a big one on my to-do list right now. And, I did the Tupperware cabinet a few nights ago. Recycled EVERY plastic container I had in there (most of them I don’t know how old!), kept the glass ones and added a fresh new 50 pc. Rubbermaid set from Sam’s. Heaven! Those brooches are GORGEOUS! And, I want to know when you’re having a garage sale. :)

I know what you mean about the pantry. I cleaned out mine a few weeks ago and I too felt like a new woman. I can’t wait to see how I feel after cleaning out my closet next week. I love the brooch that was in all your pictures

  3. I wish the pantry fairy would come to my house and make it all wonderful. Is she only a myth? I hope not, because I sure don’t know where to start. :)

I too have been ‘nesting’. It feels good to have the holidays past us and a new fresh start. I am looking forward to spring colors and warmer days. Love your pins… I wear a little bling like that everyday. :)

    Thanks for sharing!
