Mixing Window Treatments and OU Football

Red Floral Panles with Black Dot Cuffed Cafe Curtains

It’s quite common when designing new window treatments that I will need to work with existing furniture, paint colors or artwork when choosing fabrics.

This is the first time college football played a role in the process. :)

When Hanna first called and we talked about new window treatments for her living room and adjoining dining room she mentioned that she and her husband, Wes are huge Oklahoma Football fans.

The only request Wes made was the new window treatments must work well with his OU Football memorabilia.

Several ideas flew through my head. I didn’t like any of them.

I could see simple, yet clean and contemporary. But using Crimson and Cream mixed with Black? I can’t say I liked where my imagination was taking me.

Until Hanna made her requests.

She wanted fun and bright. She wanted the new window treatments to liven up her rooms with a mix of fabrics & patterns

Now THIS was going to be fun.

After sending her several different fabric options Hanna chose this amazingly fun and full-of-color floral pattern.

The floral met Wes’ requirement of blending with the red and black that is so prominent in his OU Football memorabilia AND Hanna’s need for pattern and color.

Even better…Wes was happy to let Hanna have her floral!

Red Floral, Black Dot & Turquoise Valance

Hanna and I choose a black dot to use an a ruffle along the lower edge and a vibrant turquoise as an accent color.

The valance for the dining room is mounted using medallions. Also used as curtain tie-backs.

Turquoise Lining

We also used the turquoise as the lining for the bell valance.

The adjoining living room window, which faces the front of the home, received a pair of floor length panels out of the floral paired with an ivory cafe curtain (which has a small tone-on-tone dot pattern) with a cuff made from the black dot.

The end result was a beautiful solution for Hanna and Wes to mix their love of OU Football with the desire to bring fun color and pattern into their home.

  2. Wow! You really had your work cut out for you. They turned out super cute though…and fulfilled the request of the client.

I love football but Minnesota’s maroon and gold never inspired me to use those colors in decorating………probably because I wasn’t thinking “outside the box” the way you all did. Those window treatments are simple but sure “pop” and I know your clients were thrilled with the way they turned out! Kudos!
