Aqua & Cream Guest Bedroom with a Store Bought Curtain Re-do

Aqua & Natural Curtains

Some of the prettiest and most popular color schemes these days feature shades of blue.

This guest bedroom in Tara’s home centers around a pale aqua paired with shades of cream and tan.

The color scheme began with the comforter you see laying across the bottom of the bed. A muted paisley (That I think came from Pottery Barn) in faded shades of aqua, green, tan & ivory.

Here ‘s a before of the window alcove.

Aqua and Cream Bedroom Before

The window treatment began with these two ready made, grommet style curtains.

Aqua & Natural Before

Neither curtain was long enough for the guest room window so we decided to create one of our own.

Tara originally wanted to use the burlap-like natural as the top of our curtain panel but we decided the aqua was a better choice due to the wall color.

I cut the tan colored panels to become a slightly gathered “skirt” along the bottom of the panels. Aqua & Natural Window Treatment with Fringe

The aqua and light brown fringe (from Hobby Lobby) was the perfect accent to sew between the two fabric and give the new panels a bit of pizzazz.

Beyond the Screen Door - Painted Ceiling Medallion

One of the things I love about working with Tara is her attention to detail. Details you could easily incorporate into your own home.

Tara didn’t just paint the ceiling with her accent color (so easy to duplicate), she took it a step further with a gorgeous, hand painted ceiling medallion as well (not so easy to duplicate).  :)

I love the idea of taking colorful, yet fairly small pieces of art and totally making it a focal point with oversized mats and frames.

Aqua & Cream Bedroom

This little corner was a favorite with it’s tufted, ivory linen settee and paisley aqua, silk pillows.

Panel with Roman Shade

Our last touch was to add a flat fold roman shade, complete with tiny little beaded shell detail, to our floor length window treatment. The roman shade was made from another store bought curtain in a fabric similar to the gathered skirt.
Still in love with that sweet little crystal chandelier.

What about you? I know I’d feel pretty special to stay in a guest room this beautiful.

The perfect solution for some apple green sateen or faux slubbed silk drapes i got for free…because they are two differnt lengths! ;-) hope you will show us the shell detail on the shade next. :-)

  2. Beautiful! And I love the idea of adding the extra little “skirt” to the bottom of the panels. I’m still obsessing over my keeping room curtains. I bought some ready mades that are not quite as long as I’d like- this may just do the trick! :)
