Ruffled & Appliqued Inspiration

Ruffled Bed ThrowsHave you ever wondered how we functioned with out our digital cameras? iPhones or iPads? As much as I love these things, and have no desire to work without them, I often miss the days of film.

When my kids were little I took pictures of them ALL the time. Every time I had a roll of film developed I printed double copies. Sometimes triples. Grandmothers, Great-grandmothers, Aunts, Uncles…they all received frequent copies of my kids. All my frames had updated pictures. I was sooo organized.

Something happened when the world went digital. Or it could be a combination of digital photography and my age but I’m not near as organized now as I used to be.

Case in point.

Look what I found! Pics of an adorable little girl’s room I took during the 2012 Parade of Homes.

Since I’ve always adhered to the philosophy of Better Late Than Never…

Ruffled Bed Throw

Just look at all the inspiration & ideas in this room.

Ruffled Bed Throw –  This is the first thing that caught my eye in this room. I LOVE this idea as well as the idea of using a wide variety of fabrics. I’m not terribly fond of all the fabrics they used but I adore the idea.
I’ve seen this throw made using a body pillow or a thin layer of batting as the insert or leaving it flat. You would probably call this a faux throw. It’s more for looks but it could  definitely be made larger to be functional as well as decorative.

Striped Painted Walls – Striped walls are always fun. This time the stripe was achieved by painting every other stripe with a shiney, clear glaze.

Bedskirt Trim –  Adding a touch of trim along the lower edge of the bedskirt.

Applique Bird Pillow

Appliqued Pillow – Probably the second thing that caught my eye. Not a new concept by a long shot but I loved the simplicity of this sweet little pillow. Definitely want to try this.

Adding Trim to Sheets – I’ve done this several times with my girls. Take sim& pillowcases and customize them with ribbon.

Loose Fold Roman Shades

Color Banded Shades – I’ve made similar loose fold roman shades with the ruffles and trim along the lower edge but I like the idea of adding a band of color along the sides.

Multi-Ruffled Pillows

Ruffled Pillows – How could someone who likes ruffles as much as I do not be inspired by these cuties!?! So fun!

Pink Ruffled Shower Curtain

Ruffled Shower Curtain – Even the shower curtain receive special ruffle attention. Notice how they only applied the trim to every other ruffle. Smart was to add detail but save a bit of money as well.

I love finding unexpected inspiration! Even if it was hidden in the depths of my computer. 🙂

Now, if I only had time to play with these ideas! Maybe in January.

Any of these ideas spark a project idea for you?

Love this pretty room! The ruffles and fun colors and fabrics are gorgeous.

  7. Lots of pretty ideas. I have wanted a ruffled shower curtain for quite some time, but I really hate doing the actual ruffling of fabrics. I would love a three tier ruffle for our tall bed, but again, ruffling the material is so not fun to me. Plus alllll that extra yardage. Maybe the ruffle fairy will visit me at Christmas.

BIG fan of ruffles! The bird pillow is adorable too, so glad you found this and YES…better late than never!
