Lovin’ Those Little Details ~ Contrast Linings

Pink Cheetah Curtains with Green Chevron Lining

Years ago I made my youngest daughter a floral sundress.

This particular pattern called for a lined bodice and I thought, “Why should I line this with a solid? A pattern would look so much cuter!”

And it did! I chose a small, contrasting check and it was adorable!

I realized early on that I’d much rather make a pillow than a dress but I loved that little sundress. I loved seeing that peek of the unexpected fabric inside the collar. It really was adorable!

That was my inspiration the first time I ever added a contrasting fabric to the back side of a window treatment.  And it’s still one of my most favorite details.

It’s that pop of the unexpected or maybe it’s just a fun color that makes this such a cute detail.

Sometime’s I’ll line the entire valance like the one above. Or the next three…

But most often it’s just a band along the upper edge of the curtain. Usually between 4″ to 6″ (depending on the size of the droop). Just enough to add that little bit of interest.

Floor Length Curtains with Houndstooth Lining

more details coming soon

For this window treatment we lined the entire floor length panel in a stunning black and cream houndstooth. This curtain is seen from the homeowner’s back patio and we wanted a cute view looking back to the house. I’ll be sharing more soon.

So the next time you’re considering new window treatments don’t forget the backside. You may want to take advantage of the opportunity for that extra detail!

Love all of these. Really like the red leopard print fabric and absolutely love the striped drapery with the ruffle at the top. These make all my window treatments seem really boring. You are really talented. Thanks for sharing all your creative ideas!

  2. Very fun!

All lovely! Please please tell me…did you use a pattern for Elizabeth’s kitchen curtains? I so want to make curtains like this, but not sure if I should wing it or get a pattern.

    Thanks for all your talent,

Hi, Kim! No, I didn’t use a pattern. It’s actually just a long rectangle. Very simple! You can definitely do it! The droops are achieved from the width of the material combined with how many rings you choose to use. This curtains length is two times the width of the window.
