Dreamy Frilly Rufflely White Pillows

White Linens

As a young mom, with my four little chickens gathered around me, all under one roof, I couldn’t even imagine sending my kids to middle school much less the thought that one of them might eventually move 1500 miles away.

But that’s what happened. A few months after my oldest daughter Courtney graduated from College she told us she was moving to California.

Wait. WAIT! Does this has anything to do with white pillows? Best read in the same voice as “Is this a kissing book?”  :)

Well, I’ll tell you…

White Pillows

Courtney loves all things vintage and chippy, shabby and white.
Not long after she married she asked if I’d make her some big white fluffy pillows.

Ruffled Pillow

This pillow is about 24″ square with large ruffles cascading down the front.

Double Ruffle Box Pillow

The double ruffle box pillow is about 27″ square with a row of ruffles on each side.

Double Ruffle Pillow

They’re referred to as “box” pillows because of the band of fabric which separates the front and back of the pillow creating a boxed effect. Like a sofa cushion. This band is 2″ wide with 1.5″ ruffles on each side. Tutorial coming soon!

Both styles were made from a medium weight, home-decor cotton.

The apple green velvet pillow is from Urban Outfitters.  This pillow is still available but not this color. I know! I’m disappointed, too. Love this color.

Round Velvet Pillow

This lovely bedroom is Drew and Courtney’s guest bedroom.
Our guest bedroom this past Christmas while we spent a wonderful week in the sunny Central Coast of California for the holidays. We loved it!

And such a great place to visit!

But tell me truthfully, does a Mom ever become accustomed to the fact that one of her chickens lives 1500 miles away? :)

  1. It’s tough, Sonya, having your kids far away. I know when we first moved to Ohio, my son stayed in NY to finish up his college degree. He’s in PA for his Masters now so he is a lot closer {4 hour drive as opposed to 12 hours!}. He will be done in May and I’m not sure where he is going after that. I’m sure somewhere he can get a good job, but selfishly I’m hoping it will be here in Ohio.

The pillows are great! I’m looking forward to the box pillow tutorial. I have two that need new covers and they are sitting in a closet right now. I’d love to do new covers for them, but I am finding it a bit intimidating to figure out that strip that is the “box”.

No…I don’t think you would ever adjust to 1500 miles. :) LOVE the pillows! You always do such a beautiful job on everything. The green pillow style harks back to the ’70′s I think….I know it was eons ago. My step-mother used to make them. :)

I’m sure you loved being away from all this cold weather! CA has the perfect temps I think.

  3. Gorgeous. They really are dreamy. Hugs, marty

  4. Omg mom! The one room in our house that is the least decorated and quite possibly my least favorite is the one you choose to put on your blog! Ah!

    Love you!

    Sonya:

I am the mother of twin boys. One of my boys went to college three hours away – pure torture! But, he called me every single day! Luckily, he graduated in three years and moved back to the area. Fortunately for me, his brother went to school closer to home. While I am not sure how I would handle 1500 miles, I do believe they eventually come back home. Usually, it is when children arrive and they realize how removed they are from family. For your sake, I hope that day comes soon!

Love those pillows!! What a precious little bedroom. :)

And to answer your question, I hope I never have to find out.

    Love those pillows!

  8. Gorgeous pillows Sonya…and the answer to your question is “NO”!!!…When our son moved away, six years later, we moved to be near them . . all because of a precious granddaughter..oh and my son too!…:)

  9. Sheri says:

Beautiful!!! The apple didn’t fall far from the tree! Hopefully I can see it in person one day!

  10. Well, I love this pillow, so looking forward to your tutorial! Gorgeous.

  11. Oh my I love both pillows, so shabby chic so romantic. I would be one of those weekend guest who wouldn’t want to leave after a weekend in the guest room. It’s hard for me to answer since my daughter left me permanently at the young age of 3, and I know the difficulty in that, so find solace in the fact that your road to her is open, and miles can only separate if you let them.
