This alcove bed/oversize window seat is one of my favorite parts of our home. It’s in my youngest daughter’s room.
Did you catch the post where I mentioned she’s ready for a new look in her room? That she got rid of everything she no longer wanted? She’s ready to say goodbye to all the bright colors and that included the pink & orange curtains.
The original floor plan for our home included a normal sized window seat. Maybe 2-2.5′ deep. One day, while walking through the house during the framing process, I realized the space was much deeper than the plans. 5′ deep! I was so excited.
I’m not sure what happened between the plans and the framing but I wasn’t about to complain. I loved it and knew exactly what I was going to do with the extra space.
My builder and carpenter looked at me like I was nuts when I told them I wanted the entire space made into a bed. It’s not an uncommon sight to see these days but evidently I threw them for a loop 8 years ago. 🙂 But they were both great to work with and I got my wish.
It’s been a reading nook, sleepover hangout, nap site and more.
And sometime in the, hopefully, near future it will have a new look.
